Radiation Detector
A radiation detector is a device that detects and measures ionizing radiation such as alpha, beta, and gamma rays. In space and astronautical engineering, radiation detectors are used to measure the radiation environment in space and to protect astronauts and spacecraft from the harmful effects of radiation. Radiation detectors can be passive or active. Passive detectors measure the total dose of radiation over a period of time, while active detectors measure the radiation dose rate in real-time. Some common types of radiation detectors used in space and astronautical engineering include Geiger-Muller counters, scintillation detectors, and solid-state detectors.
