Quarks

Quarks are elementary particles and a fundamental constituent of matter. They combine to form composite particles such as protons and neutrons, which are the building blocks of atomic nuclei. Quarks are never found alone in nature, but always in groups of two or three, bound together by the strong force. There are six types of quarks, known as flavors: up, down, charm, strange, top, and bottom. Quarks have fractional electric charges and are affected by all four fundamental forces of nature: strong, electromagnetic, weak, and gravitational.
