Propulsion System
A propulsion system is a system that generates thrust to propel an object forward. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, a propulsion system is used to move spacecraft and satellites through space. There are various types of propulsion systems used in spaceflight, including chemical rockets, electric propulsion, and nuclear propulsion. Chemical rockets are the most commonly used propulsion system and work by burning fuel and oxidizer to create a high-pressure exhaust that propels the spacecraft forward. Electric propulsion systems use electric fields or magnetic fields to accelerate charged particles, which generate thrust. Nuclear propulsion systems use nuclear reactions to generate heat, which is then used to create thrust. Propulsion systems are critical to space exploration and are constantly being improved to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
