Precipitation

In space and astronautical engineering, precipitation refers to the process of solid particles settling down from a gas or liquid phase onto a surface. This phenomenon is particularly important in the design and operation of spacecraft, as precipitation can cause contamination and damage to sensitive equipment. In microgravity environments, such as those experienced in orbit, precipitation can be even more problematic as there is no gravity to assist in the settling of particles. Therefore, engineers must take special precautions to prevent or mitigate precipitation, such as using filters, electrostatic discharge devices, and careful material selection.
