Power Generation System
A Power Generation System in the context of space and astronautical engineering refers to the set of devices and processes that generate electrical power for spacecraft and space stations. These systems can include solar panels, fuel cells, batteries, and radioisotope thermoelectric generators (RTGs). Solar panels are the most common power generation system used in space, converting sunlight into electrical energy. Fuel cells use hydrogen and oxygen to produce electricity and water as a byproduct. Batteries are used for short-term power storage and backup. RTGs use the heat generated from the decay of radioactive isotopes to produce electricity. Power Generation Systems are crucial for the operation of spacecraft and space stations, providing energy for communication, scientific experiments, life support systems, and propulsion.
