Passive Dampers

Passive dampers are devices used to reduce the vibrations and oscillations of a spacecraft or satellite without the need for external power or control. They work by dissipating the kinetic energy of the oscillations through the use of materials with high damping properties, such as viscoelastic polymers or metal alloys. Passive dampers are commonly used in spacecraft and satellite systems to reduce the effects of mechanical vibrations caused by launch and other environmental factors, which can damage sensitive equipment and affect the performance of the mission. They are also used in the design of precision instruments and telescopes to reduce the effects of external disturbances, such as wind and seismic activity, on the accuracy of measurements.
