Packet-based Protocol

Packet-based protocol is a communication protocol that divides data into small units called packets and transmits them individually over a network. Each packet contains a portion of the data, as well as information about the packet's destination, origin, and sequence number. The packets are reassembled at the receiving end to reconstruct the original data. Packet-based protocols are commonly used in space and astronautical engineering for communication between spacecraft and ground stations, as well as between different spacecraft in a network. They are preferred over other types of protocols because they are more reliable and efficient, and can handle errors and congestion in the network. Examples of packet-based protocols used in space and astronautical engineering include the Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems (CCSDS) File Delivery Protocol (CFDP) and the Space Link Extension (SLE) protocol.
