Cleanroom Classification

Cleanroom Classification is a system used to classify the cleanliness level of a cleanroom based on the number and size of particles per volume of air. The classification system is based on the ISO 14644-1 standard, which defines the maximum allowable particle concentration for each class. The classification of a cleanroom is determined by measuring the concentration of particles in the air at rest and in operation. The classification ranges from ISO Class 1 (the cleanest) to ISO Class 9 (the least clean). Cleanroom Classification is important in space and astronautical engineering because it ensures that the environment in which spacecraft and their components are assembled and tested is free from contaminants that could cause damage or malfunction during operation in space.
