Optical Sensors
Optical sensors are devices that use light to detect and measure physical or chemical properties of a target. In space and astronautical engineering, optical sensors are used for a variety of applications such as remote sensing, navigation, and communication. Remote sensing applications include the use of optical sensors to measure the properties of the Earth's atmosphere, oceans, and land surfaces. Navigation applications include the use of optical sensors for spacecraft attitude determination and control. Communication applications include the use of optical sensors for laser communication between spacecraft and ground stations. Optical sensors can operate in different parts of the electromagnetic spectrum, including visible, infrared, and ultraviolet wavelengths.
