Neutron Imaging

Neutron imaging is a non-destructive testing technique that uses neutrons to create images of the internal structure of an object. Neutrons are able to penetrate through materials that are opaque to other forms of radiation, such as X-rays, and can provide information about the material composition and density of the object being imaged. Neutron imaging is particularly useful for imaging materials that contain hydrogen, such as polymers, biological tissues, and water, as neutrons are scattered strongly by hydrogen atoms. Neutron imaging is used in a variety of fields, including materials science, engineering, and archaeology, and has applications in the aerospace industry for the inspection of rocket components and fuel.
