Modal Testing

Modal testing is a technique used in space and astronautical engineering to determine the natural frequencies, damping ratios, and mode shapes of a structure. This is done by exciting the structure with a known input and measuring the response at various points. The data collected is then used to create a mathematical model of the structure's dynamic behavior, which can be used to predict its response to different inputs and loads. Modal testing is an important tool in the design and testing of spacecraft and launch vehicles, as it allows engineers to identify potential vibration and resonance issues that could affect the performance and safety of the vehicle.
