LIDAR

LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) is a remote sensing technology that uses laser light to measure distances to objects and create precise 3D maps of the environment. In space and astronautical engineering, LIDAR is used for various applications such as terrain mapping, atmospheric studies, and spacecraft navigation. LIDAR works by emitting short pulses of laser light and measuring the time it takes for the light to bounce back after hitting an object. By analyzing the time delay and intensity of the reflected light, LIDAR can create highly accurate 3D maps of the environment. In space applications, LIDAR is used to map the surface of planets and moons, study the Earth's atmosphere, and help spacecraft navigate and avoid collisions with other objects in space.
