Laser Ranging

Laser ranging is a technique used to measure the distance between two objects by sending a laser pulse to the target and measuring the time it takes for the pulse to reflect back to the sender. In space and astronautical engineering, laser ranging is used to precisely determine the position and motion of satellites, spacecraft, and other objects in orbit around the Earth or other celestial bodies. This information is critical for navigation, tracking, and monitoring of space objects. Laser ranging can also be used to study the shape and topography of planetary surfaces, as well as to measure the distance between the Earth and the Moon with high accuracy.
