Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles

Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs) are a type of ballistic missile that has a range of more than 5,500 kilometers, typically designed for nuclear weapons delivery. They are primarily designed for long-range nuclear weapons delivery (delivering one or more thermonuclear warheads). However, they can also be used for carrying conventional warheads. ICBMs are differentiated from other ballistic missiles by their greater range and speed. They can travel at least 5,500 km (3,400 miles), with some designed to travel much further. Their high speeds and long ranges complicate interception. ICBMs launch on a sub-orbital flight trajectory and travel at about 6 to 7 kilometers per second. To ensure global reach, they are usually launched into space so that their warheads can descend on the target from above. ICBMs have various deployment modes, including silo-based, submarine-based, and mobile launchers.
