Ballistic Missile

A ballistic missile is a missile that follows a ballistic trajectory when it is in flight. This means that the missile is initially propelled into the air and then follows a path determined by gravity and the missile's own momentum. Ballistic missiles can be launched from ground-based silos, mobile launchers, or submarines. They are typically used to deliver nuclear, chemical, or biological weapons, but can also be used for conventional warfare. Ballistic missiles can be classified based on their range, with short-range missiles having a range of up to 1,000 km, medium-range missiles having a range of up to 3,000 km, and intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) having a range of more than 5,500 km. The development and deployment of ballistic missiles has been a key component of military strategy for many countries since the mid-20th century.
