Inert Gas
Inert gases, also known as noble gases, are a group of chemical elements that are odorless, colorless, and have very low reactivity with other elements. In space and astronautical engineering, inert gases are commonly used in gas discharge tubes, ion thrusters, and as pressurizing agents in spacecraft. Helium is often used as a coolant in space applications due to its low boiling point and high thermal conductivity. Argon is used as a propellant in ion engines due to its high ionization potential and low molecular weight. Xenon is also commonly used as a propellant in ion engines due to its high atomic mass and low reactivity. Krypton is used in spacecraft lighting due to its bright white light. Inert gases are also used in welding and metal fabrication processes in space due to their non-reactive nature.
