In-situ Resource Utilization (ISRU)
In-situ Resource Utilization (ISRU) is the practice of using resources available on a celestial body, such as the Moon or Mars, to support human exploration and settlement. This includes extracting and processing materials such as water, oxygen, and metals from the soil or atmosphere of the celestial body. ISRU is important for reducing the cost and risk of space missions, as it eliminates the need to transport all necessary resources from Earth.
