Implants

In space and astronautical engineering, implants refer to the devices or materials that are surgically implanted into the human body to enhance or maintain the health and performance of astronauts during space missions. These implants can be used to monitor vital signs, deliver medication, or replace damaged tissues. Implants can also be used to mitigate the negative effects of microgravity on the human body, such as bone loss and muscle atrophy. Examples of implants used in space include implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs) to treat irregular heartbeats, subcutaneous monitors to measure glucose levels, and bone implants to prevent bone loss. The development of new implant technologies is crucial for the success of long-duration space missions, such as those to Mars, where astronauts will face prolonged exposure to microgravity and radiation.
