Hydrogels

Hydrogels are three-dimensional networks of hydrophilic polymer chains that can absorb and retain large amounts of water. They are used in various applications in space and astronautical engineering, such as in the design of space suits, wound dressings, drug delivery systems, and as a medium for growing plants in space. Hydrogels can be tailored to have specific properties, such as mechanical strength, biocompatibility, and biodegradability, making them versatile materials for use in space. In addition, hydrogels can be used to create artificial muscles and soft robots, which could have applications in space exploration and manipulation of objects in microgravity.
