Geological Processes

Geological processes refer to the natural physical and chemical phenomena that shape the Earth's surface and subsurface. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, geological processes are studied to understand the formation and evolution of planets, moons, asteroids, and other celestial bodies. These processes include tectonic activity, volcanic eruptions, impact cratering, erosion, weathering, and sedimentation. Tectonic activity involves the movement of the Earth's crust and the creation of mountains, rift valleys, and oceanic trenches. Volcanic eruptions release gases and molten rock onto the surface, creating new landforms and altering the chemical composition of the atmosphere. Impact cratering occurs when a celestial body collides with another, creating a depression in the surface. Erosion and weathering break down rocks and transport sediments, shaping the landscape over time.
