Gas Ionization Detectors


Gas Ionization Detectors are instruments used to detect ionizing radiation by measuring the electrical charge produced by ionization of a gas. These detectors operate by filling a chamber with a gas, such as helium, argon, or xenon, and applying a high voltage to create an electric field. When ionizing radiation enters the chamber, it ionizes the gas atoms, creating positively charged ions and free electrons. The electric field then separates these charged particles, causing them to move towards oppositely charged electrodes. The resulting electrical signal can be measured and used to determine the energy and type of the incident radiation. Gas Ionization Detectors are commonly used in applications such as radiation monitoring, medical imaging, and particle physics research.
