Gamma-ray Bursts
Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are the most energetic and luminous electromagnetic events known in the universe. They are brief and intense flashes of gamma rays, lasting from a fraction of a second to several minutes, that occur randomly in the sky. GRBs are thought to be produced by the collapse of massive stars, the collision of neutron stars, or the merging of black holes. They emit a tremendous amount of energy, equivalent to the energy released by the Sun over its entire lifetime. The study of GRBs is important for understanding the early universe, the formation of black holes, and the physics of extreme environments.
