Focal Length

Focal length is the distance between the center of a lens and its focus point. In space and astronautical engineering, focal length is an important parameter in designing optical systems for spacecraft. The focal length of a lens determines the angle of view and the magnification of the image produced by the lens. In space applications, lenses are used in cameras, telescopes, and other optical instruments. The design of these instruments requires careful consideration of the focal length to ensure that the desired field of view and resolution are achieved. The focal length of a lens can be adjusted by changing the distance between the lens and the image sensor or film. This is commonly done in zoom lenses, which have a variable focal length.
