Foams

In space and astronautical engineering, foams refer to materials that have a cellular structure consisting of gas pockets separated by solid or liquid material. Foams are used in various applications such as thermal insulation, shock absorption, and soundproofing. In space, foams are used to protect spacecraft and their payloads from the extreme conditions of launch and re-entry. They are also used in spacesuits to provide thermal insulation and cushioning. Foams can be made from a variety of materials including polymers, metals, and ceramics. The properties of foams can be tailored by adjusting the size and shape of the cells, the thickness of the cell walls, and the material used to make the foam.
