Shock

In space and astronautical engineering, shock refers to a sudden and violent disturbance of the surrounding medium, such as air or gas, caused by a high-speed object passing through it. Shock waves can cause damage to spacecraft and launch vehicles during ascent and re-entry, as well as to satellites and other objects in orbit due to collisions with debris or micrometeoroids. Shock testing is a critical component of spacecraft and launch vehicle design, as it helps engineers ensure that the vehicle can withstand the extreme conditions of launch and re-entry. Additionally, shock absorbers are often used in spacecraft and satellite design to protect sensitive equipment from the vibrations and shocks of launch and operation in space.
