Final Approach

In aerospace engineering, 'Final Approach' is a term used to describe the last leg or phase of an aircraft's flight, where it is aligned with the centerline of the runway and is descending to land. This phase begins when the aircraft is fully established on both the localizer (or the extended centerline of the runway) and the glide slope, which are two components of the Instrument Landing System (ILS). The aircraft maintains a steady descent rate and airspeed, guided by the ILS or visual references, until it reaches the decision height or altitude. At this point, the pilot must decide whether to continue the approach to land or to execute a missed approach based on the visibility of the runway and the aircraft's position and speed. The final approach phase is critical in flight operations as it requires precise control of the aircraft and careful monitoring of various parameters to ensure a safe landing.
