Decision Height

In the context of aerospace engineering, Decision Height (DH) or Decision Altitude (DA) is a specified altitude or height in the Precision Approach or approach with vertical guidance at which a missed approach must be initiated if the required visual reference to continue the approach has not been established. It is a critical parameter in aviation safety, particularly during landing procedures. The decision height is typically set with reference to the altitude above the aerodrome or runway threshold, or the altitude above the ground as measured by radio altimeter. If the pilot cannot establish visual contact with the runway environment at or before reaching the decision height, they must execute a missed approach procedure, which involves climbing back to a safe altitude and either holding or proceeding to an alternate airport. The decision height is determined based on various factors including the aircraft's approach speed, rate of descent, and the minimum visibility required to visually acquire the runway.
