Diffraction

Diffraction is the bending of waves around obstacles or through openings. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, diffraction is an important phenomenon that affects the propagation of electromagnetic waves, such as radio waves, microwaves, and light, in space. Diffraction can cause interference, attenuation, and distortion of the waves, which can affect the performance of communication systems, remote sensing instruments, and optical devices. Diffraction is also used in space engineering to design antennas, telescopes, and spectrometers that can capture and analyze the diffraction patterns of the waves. The diffraction limit is a fundamental concept in optics that defines the maximum resolution of an optical system, such as a telescope or a camera, based on the wavelength of the light and the size of the aperture. Diffraction can also occur in the context of sound waves, plasma waves, and particle beams in space.
