Dielectric Loss

Dielectric loss is the amount of energy lost as heat when an electric field is applied to a dielectric material. In space and astronautical engineering, dielectric loss is an important factor to consider when designing and operating spacecraft and their components. Dielectric materials are used in a variety of applications, including insulation, capacitors, and antennas. When exposed to an electric field, dielectric materials can experience energy loss due to the friction between the molecules in the material. This energy loss can cause the material to heat up, which can lead to damage or failure of the component. Therefore, it is important to carefully select dielectric materials and to design components that minimize dielectric loss.
