Data Processing Units

In the context of aerospace engineering, Data Processing Units (DPUs) refer to the specialized hardware devices or software instances designed to manage and manipulate data. They are integral components of spacecraft and satellite systems, responsible for processing the vast amounts of data collected by onboard sensors and instruments. DPUs handle tasks such as data compression, error detection and correction, and data formatting for transmission back to Earth. They also play a crucial role in the autonomous operation of spacecraft, processing data from various subsystems to monitor the health of the spacecraft, make decisions, and execute commands. The design and operation of DPUs in aerospace systems must consider factors such as power consumption, processing speed, reliability, and resistance to the harsh space environment, including radiation. The development of DPUs involves a multidisciplinary approach, combining aspects of computer engineering, electronics, and software development with specific considerations for space applications.
