Craters

In space and astronautical engineering, a crater is a depression or hollow on the surface of a planet, moon, asteroid, or other celestial body, usually caused by the impact of a meteorite or other object from space. Craters can vary in size from small, shallow depressions to large, deep basins, and can provide valuable information about the geological history of a celestial body. The study of craters is important in understanding the impact history of a planet or moon, as well as the potential hazards of impacts on spacecraft and human exploration. In addition, craters can be used as a resource for mining and extracting materials, such as water ice, that may be present in the subsurface.
