Compressor

In space and astronautical engineering, a compressor is a device that increases the pressure of a gas by reducing its volume. Compressors are used in various applications such as in rocket engines, air conditioning systems, and life support systems. In rocket engines, compressors are used to compress the fuel and oxidizer before they are injected into the combustion chamber. In air conditioning systems, compressors are used to compress the refrigerant gas, which then releases heat to the outside environment. In life support systems, compressors are used to compress the breathing gas, which is then delivered to the astronauts. Compressors can be classified into two types: positive displacement compressors and dynamic compressors. Positive displacement compressors work by trapping a fixed amount of gas and then compressing it by reducing the volume of the chamber. Dynamic compressors work by imparting velocity to the gas and then converting the velocity into pressure by slowing the gas down in a diffuser.
