Chemical Reaction

A chemical reaction is a process that leads to the transformation of one set of chemical substances to another. It involves the breaking and forming of chemical bonds between atoms, ions, or molecules. In space and astronautical engineering, chemical reactions are used in rocket propulsion systems to produce the necessary energy to lift off and travel through space. The most common type of chemical reaction used in rocket propulsion is combustion, where a fuel and an oxidizer are mixed together and ignited to produce hot gases that are expelled out of the rocket nozzle, creating thrust. Chemical reactions are also used in life support systems on spacecraft to generate oxygen and remove carbon dioxide. In addition, chemical reactions are used in the production of materials used in space, such as polymers and composites.
