Cantilever

In space and astronautical engineering, a cantilever is a structural element that is anchored at one end and protrudes into space without any additional support. Cantilevers are commonly used in spacecraft design to support solar panels, antennas, and other equipment that needs to be extended away from the main body of the spacecraft. The design of a cantilever must take into account the forces that will be exerted on it, such as the weight of the equipment it supports and the forces of acceleration and vibration that the spacecraft will experience during launch and operation. Engineers must also consider the thermal expansion and contraction that will occur as the spacecraft moves between hot and cold environments. The use of cantilevers allows spacecraft to maximize their surface area and functionality while minimizing their weight and complexity.
