Beam Steering

Beam steering is the process of changing the direction of a beam of electromagnetic radiation or particles. In space and astronautical engineering, beam steering is used in various applications such as satellite communication, remote sensing, and laser-based propulsion. Beam steering can be achieved by using various techniques such as mechanical steering, phased array steering, and adaptive optics. Mechanical steering involves physically moving the antenna or mirror to change the direction of the beam. Phased array steering uses an array of antenna elements to steer the beam electronically. Adaptive optics uses a deformable mirror to correct for atmospheric distortions and steer the beam. Beam steering is an important technology in space and astronautical engineering as it enables precise targeting and communication with spacecraft and satellites.
