Backup System

A backup system in space and astronautical engineering is a redundant system that is designed to take over the function of the primary system in case of a failure. Backup systems are critical in space missions as they provide a safety net in case of unexpected events such as equipment malfunction, power failure, or communication loss. Backup systems can be either passive or active. Passive backup systems are designed to take over automatically when the primary system fails, while active backup systems require manual intervention to switch over. Backup systems are typically designed to be independent of the primary system, with their own power source, control system, and communication channels. They are rigorously tested and validated to ensure their reliability and effectiveness in case of an emergency.
