Atmospheric Pressure
Atmospheric pressure is the force per unit area exerted by the weight of Earth's atmosphere on the surface. It is measured in units of force per unit area, such as pounds per square inch (psi) or pascals (Pa). Atmospheric pressure decreases with altitude, as the weight of the atmosphere above decreases. In space and astronautical engineering, atmospheric pressure is an important factor to consider when designing spacecraft and space suits. In low Earth orbit, the atmospheric pressure is very low, which can cause problems for astronauts who are not wearing a pressurized suit. On the other hand, during re-entry into Earth's atmosphere, the atmospheric pressure can become very high, which can cause heat buildup and other issues for spacecraft. Understanding atmospheric pressure is crucial for designing safe and effective space missions.
