Antimatter
Antimatter is a material composed of antiparticles, which have the same mass as particles of ordinary matter but have opposite charge and other particle properties such as spin. When antimatter and matter come into contact, they annihilate each other, releasing a large amount of energy in the form of gamma rays. Antimatter is produced naturally in some astronomical phenomena, such as gamma-ray bursts and active galactic nuclei, but it can also be artificially produced in particle accelerators. The study of antimatter is important in space and astronautical engineering because it has the potential to be used as a fuel for spacecraft, as it has a much higher energy density than conventional fuels. However, the production and storage of antimatter is currently very difficult and expensive, and there are also safety concerns due to the high energy release when antimatter comes into contact with matter.
