Warfare in space and astronautical engineering context refers to the use of military force in outer space. It includes the development and deployment of space-based weapons, such as anti-satellite weapons, directed energy weapons, and kinetic energy weapons. It also involves the use of space-based assets for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) purposes, as well as for communication and navigation. The militarization of space has been a topic of debate for many years, with concerns about the potential for an arms race in space and the destabilizing effects it could have on international relations. The Outer Space Treaty of 1967 prohibits the placement of nuclear weapons or any other weapons of mass destruction in orbit or on celestial bodies, but it does not prohibit the development or deployment of conventional weapons in space.
