Tropical Cyclone

A tropical cyclone is a rotating low-pressure weather system that forms over tropical or subtropical waters and has closed, organized circulation. It is characterized by strong winds, heavy rainfall, storm surges, and sometimes tornadoes. Tropical cyclones are classified based on their maximum sustained wind speed using the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. They are known as hurricanes in the Atlantic and eastern Pacific, typhoons in the western Pacific, and cyclones in the Indian Ocean and southern Pacific.
