Throttling

Throttling refers to the process of controlling the flow of propellant to the engine of a spacecraft. It is a critical aspect of spacecraft propulsion system design as it ensures that the engine operates within safe limits and prevents damage to the spacecraft. Throttling is achieved by adjusting the valves that regulate the flow of propellant to the engine. This allows the spacecraft to make small adjustments to its velocity and trajectory, which is important for maneuvers such as docking with another spacecraft or adjusting its orbit. Throttling is also used during the launch phase to control the acceleration of the spacecraft and ensure that it does not experience excessive g-forces.
