Thermocouples


Thermocouples are temperature sensors that consist of two different metals joined together at one end. When the joined end is exposed to a temperature difference, an electromotive force (EMF) is generated, which is proportional to the temperature difference. This EMF can be measured and used to determine the temperature of the system being measured. Thermocouples are commonly used in space and astronautical engineering due to their ability to operate in extreme temperatures and harsh environments. They are used in spacecraft to measure temperatures of critical components such as engines, thrusters, and heat shields. They are also used in spacesuits to monitor the temperature of the astronaut's body. Thermocouples are preferred over other temperature sensors in space applications due to their durability, reliability, and accuracy.
