Thermal Storage

Thermal storage refers to the process of storing thermal energy in a material or substance for later use. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, thermal storage is an important technology for managing the temperature of spacecraft and their components. This is particularly important for spacecraft that operate in extreme environments, such as those that travel to the outer planets or that are exposed to the intense heat of the sun. Thermal storage systems can be used to absorb excess heat generated by spacecraft components and release it when needed to maintain a stable temperature. They can also be used to store heat generated by solar panels during the day and release it at night when the spacecraft is in shadow. Thermal storage systems can be made from a variety of materials, including phase change materials, which absorb and release heat as they change from a solid to a liquid state and back again.
