Strontium
Strontium is a chemical element with the symbol Sr and atomic number 38. It is a soft, silvery-white metal that belongs to the group of alkaline earth metals. In space and astronautical engineering, strontium is used as a propellant for ion thrusters, which are a type of electric propulsion system used to propel spacecraft. Strontium is also used in the construction of nuclear-powered systems for space exploration, such as radioisotope thermoelectric generators (RTGs) and radioisotope heater units (RHUs). Additionally, strontium is used in the production of radiation-hardened electronics, which are designed to withstand the harsh radiation environment of space.
