Alkaline
In space and astronautical engineering, alkaline refers to a type of fuel cell that uses potassium hydroxide (KOH) as an electrolyte. Alkaline fuel cells (AFCs) were one of the first types of fuel cells to be developed and were used by NASA in the Apollo missions to generate electricity and drinking water. AFCs are known for their high efficiency, long lifespan, and ability to operate at low temperatures. They are commonly used in space applications, such as powering satellites and spacecraft, due to their reliability and low maintenance requirements.
