Sonic Boom
Sonic boom is a loud sound caused by shock waves created by an object moving through the air at a speed faster than the speed of sound. In space and astronautical engineering, sonic booms are important because they can cause damage to spacecraft and can be a nuisance to people on the ground. NASA has been studying ways to reduce the impact of sonic booms on the environment and has developed technologies such as the Quiet Supersonic Technology (QueSST) X-plane to reduce the noise created by supersonic flight.
