Anti-satellite Weapons
Anti-satellite weapons (ASAT) are designed to destroy or disable satellites for strategic or tactical purposes. These weapons can be ground-based, air-launched, or space-based. Ground-based ASATs typically use missiles to intercept and destroy satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Air-launched ASATs are typically carried by fighter jets and can be used to attack satellites in LEO or higher orbits. Space-based ASATs are satellites equipped with weapons that can be used to attack other satellites. ASATs can be kinetic, meaning they physically collide with the target satellite, or non-kinetic, meaning they use other means such as lasers or electronic jamming to disable the target satellite. The use of ASATs can have significant consequences, including the creation of space debris that can pose a threat to other satellites and spacecraft.
