Solid Rocket Boosters


Solid Rocket Boosters (SRBs) are rocket engines that use solid propellants to provide the initial thrust needed for a spacecraft to lift off the launch pad. They are typically used in conjunction with liquid-fueled engines to provide additional thrust during the initial phase of launch. SRBs are designed to be jettisoned once their fuel is expended, and they fall back to Earth to be recovered and refurbished for future use. The Space Shuttle program famously used two SRBs to provide the majority of the thrust needed to lift the Shuttle off the launch pad and into orbit.
