Gravity Recovery
Gravity Recovery is a technique used in space and astronautical engineering to measure and map the Earth's gravitational field. This is done by using two or more spacecraft in a precise formation flying configuration, where the distance between the spacecraft is constantly measured and adjusted. As the spacecraft fly over areas of varying gravitational strength, the distance between them changes slightly, which is detected and used to create a map of the gravitational field. This technique has been used to study the Earth's oceans, atmosphere, and interior, as well as to map the gravitational fields of other planets and moons in our solar system.
