Seismic Wave

Seismic waves are waves of energy that travel through the Earth's layers, including its crust, mantle, and core. These waves are generated by earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and other seismic sources. Seismic waves can be classified into two main types: body waves and surface waves. Body waves travel through the Earth's interior, while surface waves travel along the Earth's surface. Body waves are further divided into two types: P-waves and S-waves. P-waves are compressional waves that travel faster than S-waves and can travel through both solid and liquid materials. S-waves are transverse waves that can only travel through solid materials. Surface waves are slower than body waves but can cause more damage to structures on the Earth's surface. Seismologists use seismic waves to study the Earth's interior and to locate the epicenter of earthquakes.
